Extremely rare complete set of 2 volumes. Verlag der K. B. Akademie der Wissenschaften, München, 1906. First edition. Folio. This work consists of a text volume and another with 20 pages of introductory text and 130 loose plates (20 folding and 5 in color). The text volume has been rebound in quarter cloth and textured brown paper-covered boards, with a printed paper spine label. The dedication page displays archival repair at the fore edge. The interior is clean and without markings. There are a number of plates, including a double-page color plate offering a plan of Aegina and a large fold-out plates offering architectural details. The plate volume is preserved in a cloth-backed portfolio (portfolio of plates with expertly rebacked spine & flaps). The labels of Professor Walter H. Gross and Robin Symes appear on the verso of the front board. Light marginal tears and chipping to the corners of one plate, and reinforcing appears at joints of two folding plates. Plates are otherwise well preserved. The portfolio displays light shelfwear. This volume has been collated and was found to be complete. The folds in the second plate have been repaired on the verso. There is moderate smudging and a minimal amount of scattered soiling. Plate 33 exhibits minor chipping at the far right edge. The folds of Plate 34 have been repaired on the verso. Plate 68 has a closed horizontal tear, measuring approximately _”, at the left edge. Plates 98, 99, and 100 contain light marginalia in pencil. Plate 105 has closed tears in two of the folds, one measuring approximately 2 1/2” and the other approximately 1/2” in length. Plate 107 displays chipping with loss at the two right corners. There is a horizontal tear, measuring approximately 1 _”, at the midline on the right side. An exceptional set.
