Unique complete set of 8 fascicles: fascicles 3 to 8 stem from the library of Archduke Maximilian of Bavaria himself and have his golden crown on interleaves. Verlag von Ebner & Seubert, Stuttgart, 1846-1850. First edition. Folio. [2], 70 pages, 48 plates of which 33 are tinted lithographs by J. B. Kuhn of Munich, pictorial tinted lithographed title page, embossed blind stamps of Von Mayr and the publisher’s initials on title page and below the plates. In fine condition: light foxing on about 5% of text pages, mostly on titles pages of fascicles 3, 4 & 5. Fascicles 1, 2, 7 and 8 have their original softcover. Fascicles 3, 4, 5 and 6 are made of a loose cover page and loose text pages and plates, as issued. Altogether a near-fine set with all plates in excellent condition. The plates are pictures of every day scenes collected during the journey of His Royal Highness Duke Maximillian of Bavaria, painted by H. de Mayr with explanatory notes by Dr Sebastien Fischer. Von Mayr had accompanied Archduke Maximilian of Bavaria on his travels through Egypt, Nubia, Palestine, Syria and Malta in 1838. They depict essentially scenes from Eastern life. Language: German.
