Very rare complete set of 5 volumes. Lithographed by R.E. Bowler, London, 1861-1909. First edition. Folio. 69, [1]; 70; 8, 70; x, 1-72, 12; 70 pages. Volumes I-III and V are first editions. Volume IV is a second edition. A scarce work, particularly to have all five volumes together. Ex-Reading Free Public Library, with their institutional stamps to the title pages and reverse of several leaves throughout all volumes. Half titles to all volumes. Collated, complete. To volume IV there are sixty three plates stated to the contents page, with one extra plate to 15, 18, 21, 28, 30, 33 and 60. Plate 29 is across three leaves. Compiled under the supervision of Sir Henry Creswicke Rawlinson. Rawlinson was an Orientalist and is frequently regarded as the Father of Assyriology. This work was published under his direction by the Trustees of the British Museum. Bound in a beautiful modern brown half-leather with cloth boards, a fine set. Language: English.
