Extremely rare complete set of 3 volumes in exceptional condition. Arthus Bertrand, Paris, 1879. First edition. Text volume (444 pages) in red half-leather with seal of 'Lycée de Douai' on external front cover, inside unmarked. Corners are worn, otherwise binding is firm and in very good condition. Occasional slight foxing on some pages. The 2 volumes of plates are in their original brown half-leather binding, they have all their 159 lithographed or engraved plates, maps and plans (62 + 97), many printed in colour, 1 double page. All plates are unmarked and in very good condition. For both plates volumes, cover appears soiled from fingerprints, little rub to leather edges and folds. Spine edges frayed. Corners bumped.
